Get Tech was sparked by Mel Findlater’s love of technology. With a little research, she discovered how technology can support people to make and keep friends, communicate, and be more independent.

More than half of all people over the age of 65 have never used the internet. More and more government information is available online and there are many tools that can make day to day essentials easier – shopping, talking with family, and so on.

Mel piloted key technology with people over the age of 65 and with people with disabilities. This developed into peer-led learning sessions where people over the age of 65 who weren’t confident in their digital skills could learn from each other and a volunteer ‘expert’. In true You Can Hub style, this project went on to a life outside the hub with social enterprise Cambridge Online. Cambridge Online was a key partner from Get Tech’s humble beginnings and as an organisation with over 20 years experience developing IT skills it was a perfect fit.
